ambition wells

could not be ignored the last film of James Cameron, Avatar , who after a stunning marketing campaign has already raised $ 200 million and the number is still growing. It appears to be a movie and a must view, even for those who do not go to the movies in years, a social impact rarely exceeded.

But what has Avatar? At first glance, a film is undoubtedly revolutionary from a technical standpoint. The real and the digital image is confused and used interchangeably. The planet Pandora was entirely created by computer, something never done before. As a result, technology special effects film has taken a giant step by Avatar .

Cameron's new project is hailed by an (almost) unanimously fervently enthusiastic audience. On the other hand, there seems to be many negative reviews in the field of criticism, as if a mysterious pact to not ruin the box office ...

speculation aside, my opinion about the film is of profound disappointment. I think Avatar only worth what you can contribute with their technical innovations. From the narrative point of view, it is difficult to find some consensus that the story is too simple and glib. Nor it is discovered that almost everyone agrees that the characters are not only absolutely flat and Manichaeism (which need not be a big obstacle if otherwise work) but also completely lack charisma, which fail to "connect" with the viewer.
If so, recognized even for the most critical yet benevolent why Avatar is getting people excited?

Perhaps the key to the success of the project is precisely Pandora, the new planet created. The film allows travel to impossible worlds, and there is no doubt that Pandora is, until far, the most radical of these places, because its very genesis is completely digital. The appeal of beautiful world, combined with the wonderful experience 3D can hypnotize more than one and get the story and the characters move to the background. Such time that is what has made Avatar so attractive to the public. Sink into purely visual experience suggests Cameron and accept the story at a lower level ... almost decorative.

Sadly, I was not able to complete this process, if it really was that. Pandora mainly because it does not seem as real as the indiscriminate alien planet parade of creatures and plants that display whole tune of spoilers and lights that allowed for the art. Which, of course, destroys any perception of real world or even possible. Everything that comes on screen is more like a swagger continuous image of a designer obsessed with blue and clear inspiration Tuning.

it's hard not to imagine that Cameron try to capture the beauty of Pandora, the charm of the natural world alien, but clearly understood as a sum of lights, neon, colors and indiscriminate effects, until can only view. The result: Avatar visually as saturated as simple are its characters and plot, as if one compensates the other. The continuous bombardment of effects, coupled with the fact of holding the nearly three short hours-long film with 3D effect the damn glasses, stun anyone. In that regard, yes, you have to agree with Cameron: This is a completely new experience, the drunk with a movie coming out is unique.

Leaving aside the aesthetic aspect, the argument does not stand Avatar virtually no criticism. He has been compared with Pocahontas , Dances with Wolves, the history of Native American people, etc etc etc. Since then, the lack of originality would be somewhat forgivable if the story was at least well told. But not so, as I said above.
And besides, something that from my point of view strikes at the whole underlying message of the film is the fact that, proclaiming the return of man to nature, the simple life and communion with the earth, criticizing greed and human greed, it is a film that has had the highest budget (so far) in the history of cinema, accompanied by a marketing campaign just negligible, and then use and abuse as any recent developments technology, such as 3D or digital image. I do not know, perhaps too sensitive to such actions, but I sense a certain contradiction in the whole ...

In short, it is sad to see that a long-awaited movie is so incredibly poor. Well the only news that can provide Avatar the world of film are on the technical side. In other respects, the film is not even a continuity with the other film work done so far, but even a regression from the narrative point of view. As if all we had suddenly become stupid.

I hope that over the years, they really take the place it deserves in film history, and pass this fever. Until then, I have to confess that I start to having some mania to blue ....
